About Daniela Arini
Daniela credits her passion for cake baking to her grandfather, who loved baking. A Pastry Chef from Portugal, Daniela’s grandfather moved to Brazil after the Second World War and worked in Sao Paulo in a very elegant restaurant. It was his cakes that Daniela loved best, and which gave her the inspiration to create her own.
Cakes for the Obamas
After completing culinary school in Florida in 2002, Daniela’s talents were soon recognized by high-end, 5-star hotels, such as the Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, and The Phoenician in Scottsdale. Her expertise and impeccable attention to detail did not go unnoticed, and she was asked to create cakes for Dubai royalties, the Obamas, and other notable dignitaries. Daniela was proud to have had the honor of baking the Obama’s cakes, although it was quite a challenge to bake cakes with the secret service looking over her shoulder the entire time!
Working with Chef David Burke
Having worked in locations where high standards were a must, Daniela automatically adopted the practice of producing quality products and combining this with outstanding customer service. These skills landed her the opportunity to work in NYC for Top Chef celebrity Chef David Burke as his Pastry Chef.
After taking some time off on maternity leave, a friend asked Daniela for a recommendation for a bakery that would create a cake for a special event. She wanted a creation that would not only be beautiful, but would taste amazing; Daniela offered to take on the challenge, and that was the start of Glace Cakes.
Relocating to Austin
Glace Cakes quickly became a successful business. Daniela’s husband, a master baker, has since taken on the cake baking at the bakery’s current Austin, Texas location. Daniela spends a lot of her time traveling, as she gains inspiration by trying new foods and desserts. She loves working with colors and art. According to Daniela, if she had her way, all of her cakes would be red and purple.
